As your move approaches, there are many items that will need or demand attention. An organised approach is essential to minimise stress. We hope the following may be of assistance:
CHANGE OF ADDRESS NOTIFICATIONS
We suggest you have a supply of ‘notification’ cards - it’s a great way of informing people about your change of address. Contact Australia Post to have your mail re-directed for at least 12 months is also a good idea. The following list may assist in identifying parties needing a change of address advice:
- Vic Roads for your vehicle registration/licence, Banks, credit card institutions etc
- Insurance companies (house, contents, car)
- Solicitors, stockbrokers, superannuation funds
- Electoral Register
- Subscriptions (magazines etc)
- Your local library and other
- Local service providers
- Dentist
- Doctor
SELECT A REMOVALIST
Obtain two or three comprehensive quotes and ensure you discuss insurance.
TRANSFER OF MEMBERSHIPS
Close or transfer club memberships if appropriate e.g. gym or library.
GARBAGE
Find out what day the garbage is collected at your new location, via the local municipality or new neighbours
PACKING TIPS
If you plan to do some or all of your own packing, start well before the moving date. It is a good idea to start with seldom-used articles. Make sure you identify each box carefully and nominate in which room it should be placed.

- Rope/octopus (ockie) straps
- Cleaning products
LAST WEEK BEFORE THE MOVE ...
- Cancel all delivery services
- Confirm arrival time with the removalist
- Arrange a permit for ‘on street parking if required
- Tidy up the garden, cut the lawns and remove any rubbish
- Check the telephone, electricity and gas are all connected in your new home.
Note: it is wise to empty the fuel from lawn mowers, oil lamps and fuel heaters. Some removalists will not transport flammable or combustible items, e.g. gas bottles
