Our Story

As a locally owned and independent company, we have supported communities across Central Victoria for more than a century. Our story began in 1911, and while our services and reach have grown, our commitment to personal service, transparency and long-term relationships has remained unchanged.

Today, we operate across a broad spectrum of real estate and rural services, including residential and commercial sales, property management, stock and station agency work, livestock and chattel auctions, and clearing sales. Our diverse expertise reflects the needs of the regions we serve and the trust our clients place in us.

A renewed focus on residential and commercial real estate in 2015, followed by the expansion of our property management division in 2018, has strengthened our position as a leading agency in Bendigo and Central Victoria. Our team continues to grow with professionals who share a commitment to client-focused results, clear communication and local knowledge.

In 2024, we proudly extended our footprint into the Mallee, Sunraysia and Western Division of New South Wales with the opening of our Mildura office at 57 Lemon Avenue. Led by dedicated local real estate and stock agents, our Mildura team brings the same high calibre of service, integrity and community connection that has defined McKean McGregor for generations. With access to the full breadth of our marketing resources, systems and expertise, they deliver a tailored approach designed to achieve exceptional outcomes for every client.

Across Bendigo, Mildura and the broader region, we remain focused on providing an experienced, trusted and truly local service-built on the foundations of strong relationships and the pursuit of the best possible results for our clients.

Our History

Our History

William McKean and Ralph McGregor both worked for Herbert Spencer & Co at the Bendigo Saleyards in the early 1900s. In 1911 Herbert Spencer retired from the business so Mr McKean and Mr McGregor formed a partnership which was to be known as McKean McGregor & Co. Gerald Gallagher who had worked as a junior clerk at Spencer & Co joined them as their clerk. At the end of 1929 they decided to dissolve the partnership which saw the emergence of two new firms, W McKean & Co and Ralph H McGregor & Co at the start of 1930.

At that time, Gerald Gallagher joined his mentor Mr McKean as a partner in W. McKean & Co. In 1947 when William McKean died, Gerald Gallagher became the sole proprietor and was joined by his brother Brendan who had worked at Newmarket with John McNamara & Co. Geralds son Kevin joined the Company in 1955 while another son Peter came into the firm in 1961. Mr Ralph McGregor started his Company also in 1930 and was joined by his son Jack McGregor in 1935 and they worked together until Mr Ralph McGregors death in 1945. Kevin Rea joined the Company in 1951 and assumed control of the firm on Jack McGregors death in 1969. Kevin was joined by his son Glenn in the business in 1990.

The two firms continued working separately at the Bendigo Saleyards, now known as the Bendigo Livestock Exchange, from 1930 until 2008. On June 30 2008, the two Companies again came together in a merger to form the new firm of McKean McGregor Pty Ltd.
